The course is divided into two modules:
Module 1 (3 CFU): Narrative Forms: Postmodernism and Realism in Contemporary English Novel. In this part London Fields by M. Amis and White Teeth by Z. Smith will be analysed in order to delineate postmodernist strategies and themes such as metanarrative, the complex twist between fiction and reality, multiculturalism and the relationship with the English realist tradition.
Module 2 (3 CFU):History, Writing, Memory in Contemporary English Novel. One of the most important tendencies of British contemporary narrative is the attempt to refer and to re-write narratives of the past. In this part some issues concerning the interrelationship between history and memory and the roles of literary texts to rescue and re-build the past will be analysed.
