Objectives

Expected results:

The course aims to complete the economic-business training of the student with theoretical-methodological and applicative contents useful to deepen, in an eco-industrial perspective, the problems related to the analysis and development of industrial symbiosis systems at various sectoral and territorial scales .

Acquirable skills:

Knowledge and understanding
- illustrate the basic elements of production in an input-output system perspective;
- describe the main environmental criticalities of industrial production

Autonomy of judgment
- linking economic-business and environmental aspects of industrial production
- recognize and know how to apply the most appropriate industrial symbiosis solutions to the various production contexts

Communication skills
- effectively use the technical terminology related to the problems related to Industrial Symbiosis.

Contents

The laboratory is aimed at providing the methodological and operational bases for the analysis and the implementation of collaborative strategies for the synergic management of material and energy flows between productive entities, commonly defined Industrial Symbiosis (IS). To this end, the main approaches to the development of IS, the support tools and the most widespread modeling and representation software for exchanges of material and energy flows will be illustrated with the aim of developing "loop closing" and "input-output matching" soltutions.

Production process, input, output, by-product and waste,
Industrial Ecology, "place-based" approaches and Industrial Symbiosis (IS)
Concepts, tools and key elements of an IS.
Symbiosis as a system eco-innovation

Operation and application potential:
Types and operational cases of IS
Potential of the IS in the Italian production system

Design:
Contextual factors and characteristics of an IS.
Analysis and design methodology

Methods of Provision

Conventional

Teaching Methods

The course is structured in 54 hours of frontal teaching, divided into 2-hours modules, according to the academic calendar. The frontal teaching consists of theoretical lessons (lectures) and seminars held by business experts on the topics covered.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The final exam consists of an oral examination with an evaluation in thirtieths. The object of examination reflect those treated during the course. In order to pass the exam it is necessary a correct use of the terminology and a clear and concise exposition that highlights the logical connections between the aspects considered
