The course will present emotional and social development theories and specifically emotional competences, emotional socialisation, social competence and the contribution of emotion related processes and moral development on children’s adjustment to the context, including the school and the family environment. Different life contexts will be examined, such as family, school, peer groups and the relationships inside each of them. A selected look will be deserved to emotional development. Moreover, individual differences in adapting to the social environment will be examined and maladaptive adjustment will be taken into consideration. The module will also present the main tools to detect and evaluate social skills and emotional competences, and guidelines from evidence-based intervention programs will be provided.
