Prerequisites:

Basic notions of mathematics, geometry and physics. The course provides the basic notions in hydraulics to achieve the course objectives.

Objectives

Understand notions for the hydrological and hydraulic analysis of erosion and solid transport phenomena at the origin of surface morphology.

Contents

The course presents the characteristics of drainage basins and the motion of surface water courses. The course points out the relevant aspects of fluid dynamics for the transport and deposition of particulate sedimentary materials. The concepts of fluid dynamics are used to deal with the movement of bottom and suspended sediments, geometry, kinematics and dynamics of ripples and dunes.

The course addresses the following main topics:
- Tracing and characteristics of watersheds
- Introduction to fluid dynamic
- Hydraulics of open channels systems
- Flow in rotating environments
- Movement of sediment by water flows e del vento
- Bed configurations and sediment transport

The course will be articulated in lectures and exercises by using spreadsheets and technical software.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Oral examination.
The exam awards 30 points as follows:
- 5 points: ability to identify a surface catchment area
- 10 points: knowledge of the main aspects of properties and motion of fluids
- 15 points: knowledge of the main aspects concerning the movement of sediments due to the motion of fluids and analysis of the bed configuration due to sediment transport
