Prerequisites:

Previous knowledge of themes concerning ethics and welfare. The course is designed to enable students to acquire philosophical skills and to reach learning outcomes.

Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide a good knowledge of theoretical viewpoints concerning the subjects proposed and make students acquire the body of terms used with particular technical application in the subject of study.
By the end of the course, students will have an excellent knowledge of the broad chronological, thematic, and stylistic categories of philosophy and ethics.
And they will acquire the ability to identify relevant factors of specific content and form in ethical, philosophical and social contexts which have contributed to develop the politics of welfare.

Contents

The course is designed to enable students to acquire hermeneutic skills and to develop critical viewpoints on the historical development of ethical theories and social policies. As for the history of ethics, the course will focus on those theories that gave an impulse to a re-formulation and re-constitution of moral traditions.
Students will acquire knowledge concerning social policies and the ability to apply them, in order to understand the strategic scenario, the opportunities and risks of the competitive environment in which they operate as actors of welfare and of public administration.
The course is articulated in the following didactic units: 1) The history of ethics from the Sophists to the present day, considering the context in which the various ethical theories arose; 1) The analysis of policies and welfare state with particular attention to the four main social policies: pensions, labour, health and assistance; 3) Historical introduction to the ideas of ethics: the foundation and autonomy of ethics, it’s relationship with other sciences. Notions such as freedom, dignity and justice as qualifying moments of human being’s actions

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Oral examination.
Teaching foresees to complete the formation of the student with notions and useful tools to deepen the analysis and the understanding of the ethical-philosophical and social context within which you/they mature the politics of welfare.
The oral test is directed to verify happens him learning, the conceptual mastery, the ownership of language and the ability to elaborate again critically and in synthetic way the thematic peculiar of the course
Knowledge and ability of understanding
at the end of the course the student must know
- to recognize the matters epistemologiche at the base of the ethical theories
- to describe the origin, the evolution and the structure of the politics of the welfare
- to deduce around the principals classical themes of the ethics with particular attention to the connection among individual

The grading scale goes from 1 to 30 with honours (cum laude): 1-17 fail, 18-21 sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with honours (cum laude) excellent.
