The course aims to to provide students with theoretical concepts on the recovery, treatment, characterization and valorisation of secondary raw materials deriving from construction and demolition waste. The objectives are defined in accordance with the emerging issues concerning the aspects of environmental sustainability, reduction of raw materials from mining and recovery of waste materials in the form of secondary raw materials.
The teaching activities are aimed at acquiring theoretical notions on the cycle of building materials (mainly of stone origin) from extraction, to use and recovery.
At the end of the course students will be aware of: the actions undertaken by the European Union to address the problem of demolition waste; the characterization of stone building materials on a chemical-structural basis; of CDW recovery processes.
Furthermore, they will also be able to: navigate between Italian and European legislation in the field of waste recovery; track back to its original extraction form a building waste material; illustrate and present a project for the recovery of secondary raw materials in the form of an oral scientific contribution
