The internationalisation of the PhD aims at strengthening the international dimension, improving the quality of the education for doctorate students, and promoting competitiveness at an international level. The key points to consider are:

  • Creation of a favourable environment;
  • Tools for logistic organisation;
  • Effective interface with the Superintendent;
  • Linguistic preparation;
  • Use of EU programs;
  • Complementary actions related to research training.

The ‘G. D’Annunzio’ University (through its ‘G. D'Annunzio’ School of Advanced Studies) aims at promoting and facilitating international cooperation in the field of PhDs. To this end, it signs agreements with foreign universities which define the implementation of cooperation, conducting theses in co-supervision, issuing joint or double degree and/or achieving the ‘Doctor Europaeus’ degree and other similar certificates, and regulates attendance of foreign doctorate students.

The agreements are signed by the Rectors of the member Universities. The proposed agreements will be submitted to the School of Advanced Studies and the Academic Senate. The agreements will take into account the same criteria used for the proposed ordinary PhDs, with regard to the scientific and educational validity. The significant element of the agreements will be the issuance of a joint degree or a degree recognised by the Contracting Parties (double degree).
