Prerequisites:

The exam can be taken only after having passed and recorded Psychobiology I.

Objectives

The course aims at deeping and expanding the psychobiological knowledge acquired during the first year, with particular attention to the development of a critical thought in both the theoretical and methodological field.
The course also aims at providing the necessary instruments for the fruitful subsequent study of mind-brain relationship.

Contents

Advanced Psychobiology.
The course provides a deepening of some psychobiological topics, with particular attention to higher cognitive functions and the neurobiological substrate of the main mental diseases.

Extended Syllabus

Elements of cerebral macroanatomy: cerebral lobes, principal gyri and sulci.
Spinal Control of Movement; Brain Control of Movement; Chemical Control of the Brain and Behavior; Motivation; Sex and the Brain; Brain Rhythms and Sleep; Language; The Resting Brain, Attention, and Consciousness; Wiring the Brain; Memory Systems; Molecular Mechanisms of Learning and Memory; Brain Mechanisms of Emotion; Mental Illness.

Teaching Methods

The course contents are presented through lessons in lecture hall, taking advantage of power point slides (made available to the students) and explicative videos.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The examination is written and oral. Written exam is made up of 30 multiple-choice questions. Who passes the written exam will have to make the oral one mandatory or optionally depending on the obtained results.
