The class is split into 2 parts:
- Spanish Language (6 credits): Acquisition of level B1 of CEFR with a special focus on the production of narrative texts
- Translation (6 credits): Spanish into Italian and Italian into Spanish translation of descriptive, narrative, instructive and argumentative texts

GOALS
At the end of the course, students will:
- have acquired the reading and aural comprehension skills, as well as the writing and speaking skills covered by the coursebook
- be able to write a narrative text
- have become aware of the challenges posed by translation at the linguistic, textual, cultural and stylistic levels
- have acquired basic documentation skills for translation
METHODS
The course consists of: (a) classes held by the instructor(s); (b) practical sessions held by the lector(s).
The classes offered by the instructor(s) are both lectures (aimed at providing the necessary theoretical background) and seminars (with students' active participation).
The practical sessions with the lector(s) are highly interactive and are necessary to acquire the language skills needed to successfully complete the final exam.
For these reasons, attendance of both the instructors' and lectors' classes is strongly recommended.
ASSESSMENT
Before the exam, students are warmly invited to take the CLA exam. In
case of negative result, the programma should be integrated with:

- an other novel (for a total of 4 novels).
Assessment for this module consists of a written and an oral exam.
The written exam consists of a test based on the contents of the module
"Geolinguistics in the hispanic countries".
The oral exam consists of:
1) Translation: brief Spanish into Italian and Italian into Spanish
translations of descriptive, narrative, instructive and argumentative texts.
2) Conversation aimed at testing speaking and oral interaction skills. The
conversation will focus on the readings chosen by the student among
those recommended by the instructor during the course. It will also aim
to test the oral skills covered in the coursebook.
Evaluation of the class is expressed with a mark out of 30, resulting from
the arithmetic mean of the marks obtained in each of the parts of the
exam.
