Objectives

The goal is to increase the student knowledge and understanding of the most up-to-date methods and themes of the field. The course aims at achieving this result through group reviews of key articles on the topics listed in program.

Contents

The laboratory is set to provide a practical "hands on"experience on the neurosciences topics that have strong impact in clinical psychology.

Week 1: Neurotransmission

Week 2: The neuroimaging of cognitive processes - Group reading of 3 reviews on the topic.

Week 3: Molecular mechanisms of long-term depression- Group reading of 3 reviews on the topic

Week 4: Molecular mechanisms of longterm potentiation - Group reading of 3 reviews on the topic.

Wee k5 : Neurophysiology of aging - Group reading of 3 reviews on the topic.

Week 6: Neuroimaging of aging - Group reading of 3 reviews on the topic

Week 7: Neurophysiology of cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease and cognitive Mild

Lecture and guided review of the most prominent literature on the selected topic.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The final test will be finalized to an informal colloquium that ascertains the overall level of knowledge accrued by the student at the end of the course. Attendance is strongly encouraged, the colloquium is reserved for those who have attended the course for at least 75% of the time. Where frequency has not been possible, the student will be assessed by a written test made of 20 multiple choice questions. The questions will be based on notions contained in the chapters from 1-20 and 59- 63 of the recommended textbook as well as in the reviews discussed in class. To pass the written test the candidate will have to correctly answer at least 11 out of 20 questions.
