There are no prerequisites outside those provided for in the study plan. Non prerequisites are required but supplementary readings may be recommended from time to time which will also allow students who have not previously acquired disciplinary knowledge to achieve the stated objectives

Objectives

Learn the principles of nasal respiratory function
Central OSAS and peripheral OSAS
Understanding what respiratory implications in the chronic snorer patient
Understanding respiratory mechanics in patients with OSAS
Diagnosis of the main pathologies that lead to OSAS. Instrumental, behavioral and surgical therapies.
Multidisciplinary vision of the OSAS

Contents

The course addresses the problems of respiratory distress in patients suffering from sleep apnea syndrome and the implications in speech and swallowing rehabilitation both in adults and in the pediatric environment.

Extended Syllabus

Anatomy of the nose and rhino-oropharyngeal soft tissues
Principles of nasal and nasopulmonary breathing
What OSAS is, how it is established and how it develops
Complication of the disease.
Osas therapy
Speech and swallowing pharyngeal rehabilitation

Teaching Methods

Frontal lessons and practical exercises during the lessons. Voluntary practical exercises in a clinical setting. Interactive methods will be used to involve students and stimulate clinical reflection. The interactive mode requires constant participation by the students in the lessons

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Oral examination. The evaluation will be based on the following parameters: knowledge of the basic notions of the swallowing mechanism (until 8 points); ability to organize knowledge discursively Until 8 points; capacity for critical reasoning on the study carried out (until 8 points); quality of exposure in relation to competence effectiveness and lexical linearity and to the properties of language (until 8 points) The constant attendance at the lessons guarantees a result in terms of score higher than the lack of constant attendance

Students having at least 50% attendance in class will be able to recover with practical tasks in outpatient clinic and ENT Department prior arrangement with the teacher.
