CHIEF AIMS
The course aims to present the historical development of architecture and urban planning of the contemporary age, especially in the light of the relationship with the problems of today's society.
Secondly, to deepen specific architectural themes of recent decades (university residences; tall building (or skyscraper; the domes from antiquity to the twentieth century; history and development of museum architecture from the eighteenth century to the present day).
Finally, through the on-site lessons, deepen two specific themes (Architecture and urbanism in XXth century Rome: EUR; shape and identity of the urban texture: Ascoli Piceno).
PREREQUISITES
The course is aimed at students enrolled in the single-disciplinary course.
TEACHING METHODS
The course will take place through ex-cathedra lessons and on-site lessons.
METHOD OF VERIFICATION OF LEARNING
Students must compulsorily attend the lessons.
CONTENTS
1) Historical development, outcomes and problems of contemporary architecture.
Trends in architecture over the past three decades.
2) Themes and typologies of contemporary architecture:
a) university residences: historical development from the Middle Ages to the present day. Design problems and compositional trends
b) development of the type of tall building (or skyscraper) from the beginning to XXIst century
c) the domes from antiquity to the twentieth century
d) history and development of museum architecture from the eighteenth century to the present day
3) Lessons on site:
a) architecture and urbanism in XXth century Rome: EUR
b) shape and identity of the urban texture: Ascoli Piceno.
