"G. d'Annunzio"
There are no prerequisites.
Knowledge and understanding of seismology and seismic hazard topics. Applying knowledge and understanding to seismic risk. Making judgements and communication skills on seismological themes.
The course aims to acquire the knowledge necessary for the in-depth study of earthquakes and for the assessment of seismic hazard and risk on a regional and local scale.
• Introduction to seismology • Historical seismology • Seismic cycle • Earthquakes kinematics and dynamics • Earthquake statistics • Attenuation of ground motion • Seismic hazard: classic approaches • Seismic hazard: fault-based and time-dependent models • Hazard curves and design spectra • Introduction to seismic risk and to the Italian seismic legislation.

Frontal lessons and computer exercises.
Short thesis and oral exams. Students will be asked for further information on specific topics addressed during the course, to be summarized in short thesis and ppt presentations. During the in-depth analysis, students will have to use specific calculation codes and their ability to use them will be assessed. The final vote is out of thirty and takes into account the individual study and the oral exam.
The professor receives at his office once a week (the day will be communicated in class) and he is always reachable by e-mail at bruno.pace@unich.it. The professor is also available for information on trainings and on experimental thesis topics on seismic hazard.
