Collective living, public space, urban equipment and services are - in the European tradition, especially the Italian one - the cultural identity of the idea of the city.
At the center is the figure of man and the quality of living (from the house to the city): the collective house.

For Architectural Composition 2 the objectives are: - to acquire the tools for the analysis of an urban context of medium complexity to identify the themes for the transformation and the conditions for the insertion of architectural artefacts; - acquire the ability to give coherent form to the architectural-functional program for a building, preferably for collective residence, in its technical and formal characteristics and in its relationships with public spaces.
The project theme starts from the exploration of the public space and the equipment and services to the community, with a look at the residential typologies of the aggregated dwelling and its relationships with the surrounding urban context (project scope);
Thus, a path is built capable of investigating new relationships between living and collective space, with particular attention to places of aggregation, external areas and services (existing or absent).
Re-inhabiting a place is built through a multiple program (from the urban scale, to the building structure and its components) and through the definition of a "vocation" (characterizing function).
The architectural question is measured with the relationship between the existing and the proposed project, through the definition of a program of use and the exploration of possible spatial models (with models/maquettes, urban sections, quantitative/qualitative schemes... ) capable of investigating, telling and representing new ways of living and inhabiting.
The design exploration (from the urban to the detail scale) attempts to build relationships and positions between the issues of the project, combining the "technical response" with the "architectural" one.
The themes and objectives that each student will have to consider, investigate and achieve concern:
1. PUBLIC SPACE | COLLECTIVE space
...the condition of public space must be investigated with respect to the elements of the construction of COLLECTIVE space in its performative dimension - a necessary (although not sufficient) condition - of contemporary living;
2. SERVICES AND EQUIPMENT
each design hypothesis will have to maintain the coexistence, in addition to the system of residence and space, also and above all of the integration of a public facility / service (for example a sports space), integrating the housing systems and the collective space with the services for the contemporary living (and inhabitant).
3. THE COLLECTIVE RESIDENCE (and related services) | COMMON HOUSING
...the residence systems can also and above all be developed for specific and temporary users, suggesting different modalities within the dynamics linked to contemporary living.
Knowledge of the notions of contemporary design, design and technical construction and material systems.
Prerequisites: Architectural Composition Course 1 (and the others indicated in the student guide)
Thematic lessons starting from the program and the theme of the course.
