Objectives

The course is aimed to help the development of a crytical comprehension of migrations and of human mobility as total social facts

Contents

The course is aimed to an analysis of migrations in the frame of a global human ecology, integrating peculiarities of emigration and immigration contexts and their complementarities. Considering immigration contexts, we'll particularly focus our attention on segregation. A separate analysis concerns the concept of race and the birth of scientific racism

Extended Syllabus

1. Definition, tipology and history of migrations; 2. Directions of contemporary migrations; 3. "Double absence": migrations as a total social fact; 4. Colombian excange: genes in a global context; 5. The rise of racism in a global political and ecological context
