At the end of the course, the student should:
- write short compositions (about 300-400 words) and be able to summarize them orally
- possess a technical vocabulary of idiomatic expressions, or business expressions, principally in use in commercial sector
- be fluent enough in his English in order to carry on various types of conversation either on professional topics or leisure activities
- have a sufficient linguistic competence to travel abroad without any major problems
- be able to talk about himself using a varied and extensive vocabulary
- be able to illustrate and synthesize the chief points of a work plan or the main thesis of a scholarly/journalistic article
The general objectives of the course is thus to give the student the knowledge and skills necessary to:
- Acquire the technical vocabulary in order to communicate effectively in a managerial environment
- Read/compose short texts characterized by idiomatic expressions of that sector
- Carry on technical and/or general conversations with native speakers
- Articulate complex ideas on specific topics
Thus, the course aims to give the student the following skills in terms of particular objectives:
COMPREHENSION AND SKILLS
- to read short technical texts
- to read short narrative texst
- to read business/personal correspondence in English
- to translate in Italian short technical texts written in English
- to translate in Italian short narrative texts written in English
- to translate in Italian business/personal correspondence in English
- to carry on English conversations concerning managerial topics and arguments
- Sostenere conversazioni in lingua inglese su argomenti inerenti allo svago: viaggi all’estero, hobbies, etc.
- to carry on English conversations concerning leisure activities: foreign travel, hobbies etc.
AUTONOMOUS EVALUATION:
- the student is able to identify the chief points of a technical/narrative text written in English (e.g. buying and selling of services/general thesis in favor of the legalization of marijuana) and can express his/her own opinions concerning the argument
