Objectives

Know the main internal pathologies to integrate and contextualize knowledge and skills in the field of Physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Passing of oral exam.

Contents

The Internal Medicine course aims to provide knowledge on the physiological and clinical aspects of the main internal diseases with particular reference to pathological problems capable of intersecting with physiotherapy

Extended Syllabus

Cardinal clinical manifestations of internal pathologies:

1) vomiting, dysphagia, dyspepsia, diarrhea, ascites, jaundice

2) chest pain, cough, haemophtoe, dyspnoea

3) vertigo, lipothymia, syncope

4) fever

5) anemia
- Classification and differential diagnosis
- Iron deficiency anemia
- Megaloblastic anemias
- Thalassemias
- Hemolytic anemias

* Diabetes mellitus and its microvascular (retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy) and macrovascular complications. The diabetic foot

Teaching Methods

The teaching is structured on 2 CFU of frontal teaching, divided into two hours lessons, according to the academic calendar. Each lesson is carried out with the help of ppt, and will be interactive in order to verify the student's learning and the pre-existing skills. Clinical methodology of approach to complex patients will be applied to the discussion of clinical cases.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Oral examination, based on subjects within the program. For each topic, the student should be able to refer about pathogenesis, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment. The ability to link different topics and make differential diagnosis, as well as the clinical methodology, will be also evaluated. Finally, the effort of the student to gain deeper insight into the topics with the help of text books and recent scientific publications will be unraveled.The final score will be the average of the marks given by the commission at each question and for each subject.
