In line with the learning objectives of the degree course in "Lingue, Letterature e Culture Moderne", students will be provided with a comprehensive overview of the discipline of translation studies, raising their awareness of both the diversity of possible approaches to translation and the relationships between these approaches. Moreover, consistently with the professional profiles and employment opportunities of the degree course in the field of language teaching , theoretical and applied aspects of pedagogical translation will be discussed.

LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at providing students with theoretical and methodological instruments for the translator. Translation practices in language teaching are also discussed.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: knowledge of the main approaches to translation, of text linguistics, of pedagogical translation.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: analyzing translations carried out taking into account text-type, textual genre, linguistic register, recipient and translation loss; using translation tools; analyzing translation activities in language teaching.
MAKING JUDGMENTS: critically reflection on the different translation approaches and awareness of the limits of some translation resources, such as free online translation tools.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: describing the main translation approaches taken during the course and the role of translation activities in language teaching.
