The aim of the class is to guide students to the acquisition of level C1.1 of CEFR.
Students will learn to translate and summarize journalistic texts.
Through Spanish-Italian contrastive analyses, students will be expected to develop a metalinguistic awareness and knowledge of the following areas of Spanish linguistics:
- phonology and phonetics
- morphology
- syntax
- Linguistic variation

At the end of the course, students will have acquired:
- the reading and oral comprehension skills, as well as the writing and speaking skills covered by the coursebook
- metalinguistic awareness and knowledge of the following areas of Spanish linguistics: phonology and phonetics; morphology; syntax; linguistic variation
Students must:
- reach a C1 level
- know how to face a translational task of journalistic texts
- know how to use the main lexicographical tools
- know how to translate from Spanish into Italian a text similar to the ones translated in the classroom
- know how to summarize a journalistic text

In order to access this class, students need to have oral and written comprehension and production skills corresponding to Level B2 of CEFR for Spanish.

The course consists of: (a) classes held by the instructor(s); (b) practical sessions held by the lector(s).
The classes offered by the instructor(s) include both lectures (aimed at providing the necessary theoretical background) and seminars (with students' active participation).
The practical sessions with the lector(s) are highly interactive and are necessary to acquire the language skills needed to successfully complete the final exam.
For these reasons, attendance of both the instructors' and lectors' classes is strongly recommended.

SYLLABUS VALIDITY
The syllabus is valid for the whole 2019/2020 academic year (until the exam session of January/February 2021). For the final grade to be officially registered, students must have successfully completed all the parts of the exam by the last session of the 2019-2020 academic year.
NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS
The syllabus is the same for all students, whether attending or not: non-attending students will autonomously revise and practice the contents and the oral and written skills included in the coursebook, possibly integrating it with the additional recommended reference material.

The language skills included in the coursebook are developed and practiced during the practical sessions with the lector(s). Attendance of these sessions is therefore essential in order to reach the target language level and for oral and written exam preparation.

Assessment for this class consists of a written and an oral exam.
The written exam consists of:
1) Grammar and reading comprehension test (based on the contents of the coursebook and the lector’s sessions): successful completion of this test is a pre-requisite for accessing the other parts of the written exam.
2) Questions and exercises on Spanish phonology and phonetics; morphology; syntax; linguistic variation (check compulsory reading list)
3) Translation from Spanish into Italian of a journalistic text
4) Summary of a journalistic text
The oral exam consists of:
1) Oral comprehension test (based on the contents of the coursebook)
2) Conversation aimed at testing speaking and oral interaction skills. The conversation will focus on the readings chosen by the student among those recommended by the instructor during the course. It will also aim to test the oral skills covered in the coursebook.
