The student, in accordance with the educational objectives of the Master's Degree Course, will have to acquire specific knowledge on the criticism of Romanticism, in its different positions, as well as adequate skills in understanding and analyzing the literary texts proposed.
Among the knowledge it is appropriate that the student, at the end of the lessons, shows mastery in the comprehension of the literary language, style and narrative techniques related to the reference works, as well as co-related thematically related texts; he must be informed on the most important critical positions applied to the exegesis of the author's text and on the sources that contributed to its construction, as well as on the "history of mentality" contextual to the historical period analyzed.
It is also necessary that he mature the correct perception of the development, in a diachronic sense, of the literary genres in question in the context of the History of Italian Literature.
Among the abilities it is desirable that the student consolidates an autonomous attitude in the exegesis and judgment of the literary text; which then orientates itself in the historical and critical panorama, coming to mature, in the light of the methods learned, a personal aptitude for choice and consequently for the critical reading of one or a series of texts, related to each other in the genre and /or in the theme. Furthermore, adequate judgment must be linked to the autonomy of judgment, which allows the student to be persuasive, both in the oral presentation and in the production of a written essay: the latter constitutes the specific tool for the dissemination of critical thinking to any level.
The exercise on the literary text represents the instrument for the refinement of the greater of the abilities that the Master's Degree Course proposes to confer: the consolidation of the argumentative abilities, the critical spirit and the autonomy of judgment of the individual in an absolute sense, whose acquisition makes the student of the Degree Course competitive in the context of the different professional opportunities connected to it.
