Although conceived as introductive, the course aims to provide a wide picture of the unique, crucial complexity of language, also by recurring to epistemological hints to other disciplines and to some mentions to the history of Linguistics. At the end of the course, students are required to be able to describe and discuss linguistic phenomena according to some basic formal frameworks, and to provide arguments according to a hypothetic reasoning.
