The student, consistently with the educational objectives of the Master's Degree Course, will have to acquire specific knowledge of Romantic criticism and its multiple viewpoints, as well as adequate skills in understanding and analyzing literary texts.

At the end of the course students will be expected to understand the literary language, style and narrative techniques of the primary texts and other contemporary works related thematically related texts; Moreover, students should be familiar with the scholarly debate over the writers that have been studied, as well as with the main elements characterizing the Weltanschauung of the period.
Students should also be aware of the way in which literary genres developed over time in the history of Italian literature.

Students should develop autonomous reading and critical skills. They should be familiar with the historical context in which works were written, and with the scholarly debate. These skills should enable students to develop their own taste for literature and the ability to critically read texts with reference to both content and genre. Moreover, students should develop critical skills allowing them to communicate effectively and persuasively when making a presentation or writing an essay (which is, in fact, the most appropriate way to disseminate one’s critical views).

The analysis of literary texts helps students develop abilities that are central to this MA programme, namely the consolidation of argumentative and critical skills. The acquisition of these skills provide MA graduates with a competitive professional profile.
