Objectives

EDUCATIONAL TARGETS
The course aims to provide the basic tools for the knowledge of economic policies with the intention of helping to train the skills to understand the objectives of economic policy and the actual impact of the same on the economic system and society in general. These skills can then be acquired by studying and comparing different theoretical models and through empirical analysis.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student, with the acquisition of credits, will purchase the tools to:
- understand the different instruments of economic policy;
- assess the reasons justifying state intervention in the economy;
- critically assess the impact on the system of the various economic policy measures.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the course students will be able to apply the acquired knowledge to analyze the choices and effects of economic policies as well as the social consequences of them, also in terms of sustainability.

MAKING JUDGMENTS
The student will be able to independently collect and evaluate the information needed for the analysis of the effects of economic policies.
The actual possession of the autonomy of judgment is verified through the test of verification in which it will have to demonstrate synthesis, analysis, processing and language appropriateness.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Students will be able to present the acquired knowledge in a suitable language and with methodological rigour.

LEARNING SKILLS
The student will be able to understand the role of economic policy in the models of growth and sustainable development and will have acquired a working method useful for continuous updating in their work context of reference, also thanks to the discussion in the classroom of case studies useful to apply what learned from a theoretical point of view.

Contents

The course is divided into two parts. The first deals with the basic elements of economic theory, with particular attention to institutional aspects and the use of theoretical models for regulatory purposes, both at the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels. In the second part, particular attention will be paid to problems of a redistributive nature and to social well-being, also taking stock of recent events.

Teaching Methods

Lectures and exercises also with the use of Power Point slides, which are then made available to students, who can download them in pdf format from the teaching page.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Verification of learning is carried out with a written exam with a mark expressed out of thirty.
The test aims to ascertain the level of knowledge of the topics indicated in the program and to verify that the student has acquired knowledge of the discipline, ability to interpret economic data and ability to show clear and reasoned. The written test consists of 3 open-ended questions on the topics covered in class, each of which is assigned a maximum grade of 10/30. The evaluation takes place by adding the scores accrued for the answers given to the three questions. The answer to each question involves the attribution of a score from 0 to 10, depending on whether the answer demonstrates an insufficient level of preparation (from 0 to 2 points), sufficient (from 3 to 4 points), good (from 5 to 6 points), very good (7 to 8 points), excellent (9 to 10 points). Honors are awarded if a score of 10 is awarded for each open-ended question. Failure to achieve the minimum score of 18/30 leads to failure to pass the exam. At the end of the semester there will be a final exam. This verification consists of 3 open-ended questions on the topics covered in class, each of which is assigned a maximum vote of 10/30 according to the modalities specified above. To pass the test it is necessary to add a minimum vote of 18/30. Praise is only recognized if you reach the score of 10 for each question.
